The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will convene its Standing, Special Mackerel, and Special Shrimp Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSCs) from October 8-10, 2024. The meeting will convene at 8:30 ET each day and will adjourn by 3:00 ET on October 10, 2024. The meeting will be held at the Council Office located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.
On October 8, the Standing and Special Mackerel SSCs will begin by reviewing the effects of recreational data calibration on Spanish mackerel model performance and the terms of reference for SEDAR 99: Gulf Migratory Group King Mackerel. Then, the Standing SSC will review results of SEDAR 88: Gulf Red Grouper Stock Assessment and provide feedback to the Science Center to receive the final product and projections in early 2025.
On October 9th, the Standing SSC will begin taking volunteers for SEDAR 98: Gulf Red Snapper Assessment Workshop and will then review the recreational red snapper Texas calibration simulation. Next, the SSC will discuss the SEDAR process changes and assessment approaches. Finally, the SSC will discuss considerations of carryover and phase-in for Gulf stocks in proposed ABC Control Rule management strategy evaluation simulations.
On October 10th, the Standing and Special Shrimp SSCs will review the timing of re-initiation of Sector 7 Endangered Species Act Consultation for shrimp. The Standing SSC will discuss research and monitoring priorities for 2025-2028 and review the Southeastern U.S. black grouper management strategy evaluation.
