The Gulf Council Convenes its Outreach and Education Technical Committee

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a meeting of its Outreach and Education Technical Committee (Committee) on November 13, 2024, from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM EST. The meeting will be held at the Council offices located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida 33607.

 

The Committee will start by discussing the communications plan for the Council’s Recreational Initiative and considering potential education efforts about domestic seafood and shrimp. The Committee will then discuss outreach efforts conducted around the Southeast For-Hire Integrated Electronic Reporting Program and suggest improvements for the new program that is being developed by the Council.

 

Next, the Committee will hear an update on Ecosystem Based Fisheries Management Outreach. The Committee will then review a new management area mapping tool, discuss potential pathways for getting regulatory boundaries added to mapping tools used by fishermen, and suggest an outreach approach to improve awareness and compliance of the 20-Fathom Shallow Water Grouper Closure.

 

Finally, the Committee will review progress on the 2024 Communications Improvement Plan and the Council’s communication analytics. The Committee will consider a new method for collecting public comment and discuss the Council’s comprehensive outreach strategy before suggesting outreach projects for 2025.

 

Public comment will be held before the meeting adjourns.
